Missing ASF

Well, it has come to a close. yep... ASF has closed the doors. Wow. I just feel like i have lost something so close to me.... like my second family. i guess it was like a second home... i always felt welcome there.

i have avoided hugs... and talking directly about asf... because if i dwell on it even for a moment.... i know i will break down. I will avoid the emotion! i want only happy memories!

i have met and become acquainted with many scrappers thru ASF. and am soo glad i have. there have been some great people i have come to know thru ASF. I began my scrapping life following the death of my neice, as a form of therapy i guess. It gave me a sense of direction... and purpose. to help deal with those things... and losses that i don't like to face. I hope i can continue to be as involved as i have been in the past. (and perhaps to scrap more than i have been lately!)

here are some pictures taken on the "LAST SCRAP NIGHT"... friday night, saturday night... and those that wouldn't leave....sunday (ha). (quality isn't the best... as my flash didn't go off on 2 of the photos... and the friday night one isn't very clear)

bad blogger

Hey. surprised at a NEW post? i am. I have been such a bad blogger lately. I have been busy with work... but that is not the excuse. I just frankly haven't "felt" like blogging. I am stuck in a rut I guess. I enjoy my blog... and others... but of late, i just haven't been interested. guess i am going thru a dry spot right now. I am sure it will resolve shortly... it usually does. so just to let yall know i am still around... i felt the need to post.
I made a quick trip to Foley, Al to shop with my DS and his girlfriend. and enjoyed that... here is a pic i took of them at the beach.

YOU CAN

IF you think there is something you can't do... you need to watch this video. God has given us all the ability to do amazing things. The love shown here from this Dad is unbelievable. I have heard stories about this family over the last year... but this video is powerful. just watch... it brought tears to my eyes.

busy busy busy

we have been busy. Doug has been dealing with the "run for the wall" for the vietnam veterans...and I have been working my first week of 12 hr shifts. so far soo good!
I am loving the place i am at....but still feel somewhat inadequate as i simply don't know how to use the "machines" they have... i even had a hard time figuring out how to turn off the nurse call light button! geesh!
however, i successfully started an IV... first stick... and it did great.
well, i don't have pictures of work... but i do have some shots from the harley shop... and the run for the wall... so check this out. Daniel played Revelle and Taps and ...something else. It was short... but awesome. When he played Taps...it was over several minutes...slow..and there was a horse and carrige pulling a casket. as a memorial to those fallen.

25 years

Well its our anniversary today...25 years. I can hardly believe it. We have been through some tough times over the years...and some good ones... seems like we keep that going like a roller coaster. ha... But I still enjoy being around him and doing activities with him... just like i did in the beginning. He is my friend. I feel blessed to have someone who cares about me... and our children...and is as family committed as he is. 25 years... wow. hopefully we will have many more years together.
we aren't doing anything for this anniversary as funds are a bit tight. however, i do feel later in the year that we should go somewhere and do something fun. Hey, maybe a cruise? i have never been on a cruise! hmmm.... i will have to think on that and other possible choices. Here is a pic of us.... 25 years ago today. (yeah... I was a bit smaller then huh?)

a beautiful day

Its a great day today! The weather is so nice. no humidity.. which is rare here.
a couple of weeks ago i went to starkville to visit my college kids... Daniel is in the wind symphony and had a concert. Whitney and Daniel both helped me by getting pictures of "flat stanley" for a school project. (in st louis). here are a couple of pics.
oh and did i mention Daniel will be leaving to go on tour to europe with the wind symphony to play. they are headed to england and ireland!

songs from the past...

i went to Dawn's blog... and she posted some old song/videos... so here's my take on that. these were songs i grew up on... My Dad and Mom used to take me and my sister to the "SINGIN'S"... featuring the Happy Goodman Family, the Blackwood Bros... Stamps Quartet, oh the list goes on and on......

and... this was after my growing up time... but very reminescent of how the singin's went.

oh... and a sample of the speers family... couldn't find jd sumner and stamps quartet singing the songs i remembered.

Gifts

Yesterday I received a gift. It was a gift certificate for ASF. WHAT A WONDERFUL SURPRISE!I didn't want to take it...but i had a friend who told me that I should not refuse gifts....so i took it. (I cannot even begin to tell you how difficult that was... and how much I was quivering inside....oh the butterflys). I don't know why it is sooo difficult for me to accept gifts from others. Oh and might i say the giver was anonymous. My friend told me God uses others to give, and I know that... cause I like to give (just haven't been able to lately). However, she also told me there are times God wants us to recieve. ugh... why does that seem to be so difficult?
As apprehinsive as i was, i was excited too. And i accepted it without objection.

i can only say Thanks here to whomever it was.

God has blessed me over and over... and all these little things just really keep showing Gods abundant love for me. Thank you to who ever it was that you allowed God to use you... and thanks to my friend for letting me allow God to provide to me.

Thursday

Thankful was the title for the day at the scrapbook MB. Sometimes I don't like being thankful or patient. I have learned not to pray for patience anymore though... because God's way of teaching us to be patient is a little tough. Waiting is another thing that i get a little "ancey" with.I know God has a plan, I believe it is something good and I know He won't let me sink...but gosh I sure would like to know part of the plan. I have been reading Barbie Bassetts Blog (wow say that 3 times fast!) and she always inspires me... this is what she had in her blog the other day

No matter our circumstances, no matter our health, or our economic status, God expects us to be a missionary for Him. If you call yourself "a Christian", you are automatically "a missionary"....all the while many of us will never leave this city, state or country.

That spoke loads to me. I do try "at times".... but after reading this, i realized that there are times that i have been selfish and want the time to myself... to have fun, or "whatever"... without any "work". I need to realize that every moment is Gods. His to give to us. How humbling is that? He has been so good to me, to provide me with a wonderful husband, great kids, and a career that has helped me and my patients.... my list of "thankful" stuff can go on and on... i have a wonderful extended family that have been there for me thru thick and thin, and have helped me out thru the happiest times... and thru the hardest times. Friends that have "oh my gosh" helped me ... just by being there and sharing time... not to mention the other incidentals that some have sent my way... and God has even blessed me to have a Scrapbook store near my home... HOW GOOD IS THAT?! (A Scrappin' Friendsy)I don't really have those desires to GO PLACES... a friend told me the other day i "don't dream big"... i geuss sometimes i don't... my dreams are to be with my family. He has provided that... So for all these things he has provided... let me share with others his works. Just like Barbie said... to be a missionary. I'm not always very good at it... and I mess up...but if i fall (and i know i will) i will get up (takes me a while)..dust off...and keep trying. SMILE.

Adjusting

well, seems like i am continually trying to adjust to a new something or other.... still seems weird to be at home and not working, however, i have been looking... and i feel it is time to return to work. I haven't found the "spot" for me yet. (miss home health though) Doug is working for a friend... so here we are adjusting to another new schedule in our life. ha... guess it will ALWAYS be like this, right? For my kids, they don't have much longer before finals...meanwhile they are trying to catch up on the last minute tests... and projects... and papers that are always put their way near the end of a semester. They are young, energetic... and still have all of their brain cells. They should do fine! I miss Maddy, But the good news is.... IN SEPTEMBER SHE WILL BE HAVING a SIBLING.... thats right....maddy's mom and dad are expecting! Jenn will be due in september. so september will be a busy busy month... as maddy will be turning 3 as well. this will be EXCITING!

Maddy

i just came back home after spending some time with my grand-neice Maddy. She is sooo cute. well, it appears dad had a "business client" in Hawaii... and took his wife with him. so... i was able to take care of Maddy for a few days while they are gone. We had a blast! the first day we just played... then monday we dyed easter eggs... hid them.. and found them, hid them and found them, hid them and found them...etc... she is 2 1/2. ha!! (basically we recreated easter... since i wasn't there... gma wasn't there... and this way i got to take LOTS of pics!
after that.... we made chocolate chip cookies. YUM.... she had fun dipping the sugar... didn't like the feel of the brown sugar though, and whoa... after one touch of the "crisco" she was beggin gma to "do it"... ha it was funny! and i have ALL THE PICTURES TO SHOW... when I gave her the spoon to begin to "dip" the cookie dough on the pan, she decided it was time to eat i geuss... she took a HUGE spoonful... and headed to her mouth! gma panciked in the background... i just laughed... it was really funny. she had fun doing that.
then on Tuesday... we went to the childrens museum of memphis. and she loved it. she had the most fun on the SLIDES. any and all of them. the bigger the better. she also liked seeing other kids...and thought that was fun too.
Wednesday we went to the ZOO... Nana went with us. i will say i was wearing down a bit, and gma was really draggin. but Maddy was still going strong. she had fun. but i think she liked the children's museum the best.
it was eventful, and lots of fun... i still have to get my pics downloaded. perhaps i will do this sometime today. I will post pictures after i download them.

missing ASF

ASF has had some server problems... and they are working on getting things corrected. I miss the web site... several ASF'rs have moved to a new temp site... http://sketchwarehouse.com/boards/index.php. I have gone and registered... but for some reason, it doesn't want me to post. so i will try again later, and just "lurk" for now.
meanwhile, it appears to be bad weather, perhaps that has something to do with it.
so if you need an ASF fix... go to the web site mentioned above.
see ya

The End of February

well, February is coming to a close.. and it will soon be March. so will it come in like a lion? or a lamb? so far there has been a roar.
I have gotten my scraproom fairly organized now... my scrapping stuff is more portable which is what i needed. i found stuff while going thru everything that i didn't realize i had... so it was a sorta like christmas uncovering these items... at the same time... i remember my grumbling earlier of "i don't have"... "i need"... and never enough money to get... to my immediate embarrassement of ... well, maybe i do have it "all".
Just goes to show....we all get greedy. I didn't think i was... but the proof is there. There are times when you need to put the brakes on and this is my time. Now... that doesn't mean i am not going to purchase anything.. but i am certainly going to try and uitilize what i have, instead of the quick fix. After the challenge for the february C52 at a scrappin friendsy... i realized that i really didn't need the "extras". And perhaps i am not using what i have. The changes in the family income with me not working has forced me into being more restricted... but obviously i can do better. By using What I Have. Hummm... Isn't that what God trys to get us to do with ourselves? To use the talents he has given us? teaching us moderation? in everyting? well, this is what i am going to try to do. Using my talents... whether it is with my brain, body, soul, or ha... scrapbooking. Moderation in all.
I can see i can be more frugile at home... and with hobbies... and most certainly with my food! so at the end of February i am begining to do what we should always do. Our country is one of waste... so perhaps just ONE... can make a difference. at least here in this home.

Valentines Week

This week is Valentines! It is such a sweet holiday... i used to always enjoy gathering candy for the kids at this time of year. Oh how i remember those parties at school, and the mad dash to help the kids finish valentines for all the friends at school! We are all past that now... sometimes its a little sad... but honestly i don't miss the last minute run for that special something that they always had to get for a friend. I have never been much for a lot of "flash" for valentines... i enjoy just the simple stuff.
I occasionally surf other blog sites and out of curiosity am interested in other folks day to day life... However, i have been going to Barbie Bassett's blog a lot lately. If you haven't been there you should... esp for today. go read Barbie's Blog for Monday 10th ... I think you will find something that will touch you as well. I really think this is going to inspire my next scrapbook page... Handprints... yup. we all indeed leave handprints. I hope my handprints haven't been too smudged.
on a more somber note... the flu is on the rampage. My dtr thinks she has it. hit her yesterday fairly sudden and is running fever. soo many people are getting sick with this. I keep telling my family.. WASH YOUR HANDS! often... and if you have to go to the grocery, clean that basket first! (whoops... taking away that handprint...) take anti bacterial hand cleaner and use after leaving the store. The places where illness and germs are the highest? Grocery stores... (and walmart) and Churches. Everyone feels they HAVE to go to the store if they are sick... to get "sick" foods... and no one wants to miss church. Well, my advice... if you are running a fever - STAY AWAY FROM THE PUBLIC. stay home and get well. hopefully my family will heed my advice... na.. what am i thinkin? meanwhile... handwipes and antiseptic cleaner for me!

2 list... complete and TAG someone... Wanda (from A Scrappin' Friendsy)tagged me, and she tagged 5 people. i'm not sure i have 5 people to tag... but i will try. I have browsed some very interesting blogs...some were new to ASF, so i may try to tag them.
Wanda said she had friends at Talleyscrappers that tagged her... so this may go on a while huh? oh to check wanda's blog... go to

Smile

I say Smile... because sometimes its hard to do. the day didn't start off like i had hoped... and in spite of my aggravations with home/money... i tried to put it behind me and let the day unfold. I went to a friends and watched... get this... QVC... they were having a scrapping marathon on TV! It was nice, but because of budget limitations, i didn't order anything. I took stuff to do while i was there - and was productive. I completed 4 cards from the Saturday card class. That certainly made my day better. I also enjoyed spending time with my friend and her mother. It was a quiet day, nothing exciting. but ya know... when you can have those kind of days with someone, you gotta know they are a friend. Not everyday can be "neon lights"! ha.
I also say Smile, because sometimes we have to convince ourselves that everything is okay. There are days when people around me let a lot of little things get to them. Sometimes we have to smile, and go on. Life is hard, lets don't make it harder on 'ourselves'.
I smile, also because as aggravating as it is... God has given me a gift that works for me!. ... i have always told my kids God has given us all different gifts. We may not know what it is right away, but one day you will KNOW. Mine is the gift of "forgetfullness". you laugh? well, years ago when my hubby and I were in "disagreements" and I was determined NOT to speak to him.... well, lets just say in a matter of oh... about 15 minutes... i had already begun a conversation... and moved on. of course... later i would remember that I had "told myself" that i wouldn't talk to him, and it would irritate ME... but things were already okay again between us. so... see God uses it for even weird people like me! ha... It does make more of a challenge to remember things I was supposed to do during the day though. (i have to write lots of lists)
after browsing devotions, and other blogs... i ran accross one that said to "serve the Lord with gladness"... so even though i know i do mess up i can go back to him and ask forgivenss. but... today, i will try my best to be His best... and SMILE!

Ho Hum

yup, i got 'em... the ho hums. (and its raining) I just don't really want to do much, course it is early and haven't tried to start anything today... so that could change. I need to find another alternative for my exercising, as I sent my walking DVD to my dtr. I hope she uses it, and likes it. I found it to be helpful...hmmm just wondering if some of those really old VHS exercise tapes might still be hanging around. (yep I said it, VHS). Of course I never through anything away...so there is a strong possiblity. for me exercising is the key to the "mental" outlook... and enforcing a stronger desire to stay on track with my food. I don't really want to call it a diet... cause its just eating healthy. I truly have tried to rid my home of all those unhealthy foods we all shouldn't eat. I have only canola or olive oil, skim milk, splenda (or no sugar), no added salt or low sodium foods... very few canned items (canned full of salt), NO pre packaged "ready to eat" foods...no chips, cookies, or other random bad for you snacks. All these things have such "bad" things in the compostion of the food. Dr. Oz says they are not healthy. So basically since June/july 07 this is how I have lived. enough of that...
Last night i stayed up late to work on a scrapbooking project. It was fun, I really got out of my "box" for this. I didn't intend too, but it really just worked that way. I can't post the LO just yet... but will do so shortly.
I am trying to complete a few more C52 layouts... there is a challenge to make as many pages from the previous C52 kit we recieved. The prize? An ad-on kit for the next C52 kit to include alphas, ribbon, etc...(co-ordinates with the paper).
I have uploaded 8 LO so far... not sure how much more I can do and be happy with them. So, I will just go as far as I am happy with... then quit. I will post them in a slide show when I am completed. last day to upload is 2-13 or 2-14... (thursday).

IT SNOWED!!

Imagine that! Here in Mississippi... it has snowed. we haven't had snow in 6-7 years, and well - today was the day. Of course you had to be quick...as it didn't stay around long. I stayed up too late last night, and didn't get up early as i usually do so i didn't get the earliest of snow benefits. However, i did get a few quick shots. then i went back inside to drink some coffee, put on warmer clothes... and leave out again with the camera. by then, the snow had stopped and actually it was beginning to melt. so i had to snap as many pic's as i could in a very short amt of time. it is not 3pm.. and there is NO trace of snow existing. ha... well... it was exciting when it came. Surprises come in all forms... snow brings out the "kid" in you. It was like a big boost of caffeine. i came back inside... loaded pic's... cleaned the kitchen and now have a big pot of soup on. cornbread is next. mmmmm... it's a great day!

Governors Inauguration Parade

Yesterday we went and were a part of the inauguration parade. Deep South Military Vehicle Club (my husband) and Mississippi State Band were in the parade. along with (ole miss - ahem!) USM, JSU, ECCC, and many High School Bands. There were several clubs of the son's of confederacy and union groups... clubs frankly i have never heard of. They also had a riding club there... the horses were impressive. but i didn't get a pic of them. i will include some pics somewhere here on the page about the parade shortly.

well, i have started a walking DVD. Wasn't sure i would be able to do it, but it was okay.. at least the part i went through (half of it). I can tell a difference in "myself" just from doing the exercise. i really like to exercise... i don't know why i put off doing it. It really lifts my spirits.
I am still having trouble keeping points within the range WW says i should be in. I want to snack in the evenings. this is my most difficult time.

Friday is C52 and i am looking forward to it. Saturday is our DSMV club meeting. i am hoping for a good turn out.

I am still working on my scrap room... doug put up shelves first of this week, and i have had stuff pulled out everywhere. I have delayed organizing and putting things back up because i have just been overwhelmed with how... and not having adeq storage containers. After some feedback from my ASF friends i am inspired... and motivated now to pursue this!
oh... all the christmas stuff is put up. still need to do some cleaning, but the scrap room has delayed me. i did go to bunko... but didn't win. but that is okay... as i just love being there! I enjoyed my time scrapping friday night... but didn't really complete my (3) LO to my liking... so when i do complete them i will scan and post.

Another Dreary Day...

well, its cloudy and with many "warnings" out for the weather. so i am a bit draggy today... but thats okay. just got in from hernando yesterday... had car trouble on the way home. so aggravating. doug had to come and get me...didn't tell my mom as she worries so much. One day we will have a newer car and hopefully not have to repair a car every week.
i was able to take home my sisters scanner to help me scan in some old family photos. My mom told me while i was up... that i "didn't make a page about my dad"... this year. gulp. i just didn't expect her to say that. It was on my "to do" list... just couldn't get it all done. I need to do another few LO of dad and also courtney....kinda helps me deal with their loss too. mom misses my dad a lot... so do i. I still get teary eyed anytime I think of him.. even typing this.
oh a different note.... get this... 1) i am actually cooking today. YUP... trying to get back into my WW meals... and routine family life at home.
2).. taking the christmas stuff all down and packing it up. yeah, you heard me.. christmas stuff. i know its bad... but it is actually sooner than it has been in the past.
3) i plan to walk today... might have to walk at the church if it is raining...
4) i get to play BUNKO! i am subbing for a member who is out. yeah.... I love playing... its a chance to just relax.
and
5) tomorrow... is a free crop night... i hope to go to the store and scrap. hmmm ... i wonder if i told Jo i was gonna scrap? might ought to call her.

I will end this with a smile... as i love to scrap. (I'm not very good at it.. and i want to do more... but... it makes me happy... esp when i can use it to help with the family... doing pages for everyone.

being honest

Today is the day to start anew. I have to be honest with myself and quit pushing things to the back burner. I got on the scales... and wow - in just a matter of 6 wks things have just gone to heck. I have wanted to change my lifestyle...and pretty much have altered it a good bit... but i am having such difficulty fitting in the exercise. Why should this be a problem? I am not a member of a "club" but that shouldn't hinder me. there are lots of ways to exercise without a membership. I can tell things aren't in the "order" they should be in... thus...this is why my house is in disaray... and i just don't have the mojo for scrappin either. i guess i am in a winter funk... oh thats scarey... since winter is just begining! I am going to try to set small goals for now. Dana says baby steps... so here goes. For the rest of the week i am going to journal my eating, and avoid the "major" things i know are not healthy, also to pick up 1 or 2 extra areas in the house other than what i am already routinely doing, and to at least get out of the house some everyday... walk or visit. (change might help lift my spirits).

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2008!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2008

I didn't do any fireworks last night... but here is a pic of the fireworks from the Liberty Bowl in Memphis, TN. They shot fireworks just after Taylor Hicks sang at halftime. Mississippi State had a wonderful victory over university of central florida. GO DAWGS!

The begining of the new year is a great opportunity to start afresh. I have not set any goals yet... but actually plan to do so this week. I do know first on the list will be to return to WW to continue my weight loss journey.
Also i plan to continue to try and keep my house straight. why is this so difficult for me? I guess its because I just want to play. And... as much as I keep putting it off... I need to look for a part time job. DH doesn't feel his job will last much longer. so sad. Makes me rather angry... this was a time of our life things shouldn't begin to get so hard. He is sooo ready to slow down and take it easy... wish he could do that.

I have lots of christmas pic's... but they are all on disc at the moment... but i will try to upload some pic at a later time... if it is too late... well there is always next year... right?

I am looking forward to the open crop at A Scrappin' Friendsy this Friday.... but I do have to get my Pic's printed. I think I will try to do this at home, as I don't really want to get out in the cold. I hope to do more LO using different elements this year... and to "get out of the box" more. I love the artsy design so many people do.. wanda does a great job ... so creative.(from ASF).

oh... and one more new thing for the year - I have joined a monthly card class. I am so excited about this. Hopefully I will become more comfortable with doing cards and not rush to the dollar store!

To everyone out there... Happy New Year. 2008 is supposed to be a year that helps people "complete" things. Ha, maybe I can complete a scrapbook album!
